Burnaby Home Transformation
Alexis & Jason's home in south Burnaby was a 1950's Vancouver special with no shortage of problematic stucco siding & soffits. We began by testing the soffits for asbestos, once cleared; we began the messy process of removing it. There was a poorly built addition on the back of the house from the 1970's that was barely holding on in which we removed. Once the demolition was completed we started with our Tyvek wrap, rainscreening, bug mesh and flashings. The house had no fascia, so we went ahead and installed 2x8 primed material and painted it prior to installing new vinyl soffits. Once the house was protected from the weather, we began framing a new mudroom for access to the second floor where the addition used to be.
Although the front of the house was quite short in height, we decided to add a split level design with board & batten on the lower half, and laced corner fiber-cement shakes on the top. The remainder of the house - with the exception of a jogged section on the west end of the house - was board & batten.
The colours used on this project were from James Hardie's Statement Collection and are pre-painted from the factory. We did the shakes in Grey Slate, board & batten in Iron Grey, and all trim details in Arctic White.
